Reston Ear, Nose & Throat is Northern Virginia's premier adult and pediatric otolaryngology center. We are committed to providing compassionate and comprehensive care for a wide range of ear, nose, and throat (ENT) and allergy problems for adult and pediatric patients.
We are looking for a reliable and professional candidate to work interdependently with our physicians to provide the highest quality patient care. The surgical coordinator will be the primary contact for scheduling and coordination between surgical facility, patient, and the physician. The coordinator requires excellent customer service skills with patients and others involved in the process. This individual will assist in maintaining the surgical calendar for multiple doctors in the practice and be responsible for all various functions related to scheduling.
Responsibilities include:
- Confirm patient’s insurance provider and either obtain prior authorization or communicate need for prior authorization to appropriate parties as needed
- Provide accurate, detailed information to patients regarding surgery estimates, test preparations, time of patients scheduled arrival, and any other directional information needed; take appropriate action in responding to questions from patients
- Help schedule office and other facility-based medical procedures for patients with appropriate provider and time/location slot, utilizing appropriate scheduling codes and documentation
- Complete accurate documentation of informed consent with patients for procedures and surgeries as needed
- Review proper follow-up appointments are scheduled at the time the procedure is scheduled
- Communicate regularly with the physicians and update them of any changes with the surgery
- Maintain professional and cohesive working relationships with appropriate facility scheduling staff
- Must demonstrate consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other healthcare professionals
- Assist with front office duties such as answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, and taking payments when needed
Education and experience:
- Minimum of high school diploma and 2+ years of experience in healthcare surgery scheduling (associate/bachelor’s degree a plus)
- High level of professionalism and work ethic
- Great interpersonal and customer service skills
