ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Controls patient flow in clinic for physician. Emphasis placed on patient satisfaction.

Prepares patients for examinations and special procedures. Obtains and records vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, respirations and temperature). Interviews patients to identify current medical needs and relevant patient history. Documents findings in medical records.

Performs clinical duties as assigned by Physician/ Provider,  Assists Physician/ Provider with examination of patient, treatment, special tests and procedures.

Processes all patient referrals and required follow through. Schedules lab work, specialist visits, completes necessary paperwork to ensuring proper billing, completes physician orders. Verify and update patient data. Assists patients with completion of paperwork, as required.

Maintains clean work areas throughout practice site; observes safety guidelines as established by Supervisor and Physician. Prepares patient care area, keeps exam rooms stocked as needed.

Answers and responds promptly to patient telephone inquiries.

Administers immunizations and injections after reviewing immunization record, potential allergic reactions, identifies and reviews side effects and treatments.

Communicates with and assists physicians, patients and coworkers in a professional and courteous manner.

Performs or assists with other clinical or non-clinical duties as assigned by Supervisor. Assists in other physician areas as assigned by Supervisor.

Medical Assistant Job Duties

 

Triage and assisting Providers in exam rooms

  • Triage patient-Blood pressure, weight/height, update medications and chief complaint, date of last allergy injection and any reaction that may have occurred. Document in EMR or handwritten in satellite offices.
  • Check past medical record for any appointment indications
  • Apply skin test and documenting results
  • Perform Spirometry and IOS procedures when necessary
  • Assist provider with exam
  • Enter information in A&P: prescriptions, education, and all other information as instructed by provider. In satellite offices,  writing instruction sheets and prescriptions while provider is talking with patient

Patient Education

  • Allergy, Asthma, and Eczema instructions
  • Allergy Immunotherapy instructions
  • Nebulizer and inhaler treatments
  • Medication usage, instructions and device demonstration.

Immunotherapy Injections

  • Verify patient name and date of birth-at least twice
  • Verify allergy serum with patient-at least twice
  • Document proper amount, arm placement and any noted reaction on patient chart within Rosch Shot program or on sheet in notebook where applicable.
  • File serum in refrigerator in proper order

Telephone triage and messages

  • Handle patient calls using the .msg (message auto-replace text) within the EMR system.
  • Follow up with provider on any issue and call patient back in a timely fashion

Insurance Authorizations

  • For insurances that require procedure or medication authorization, call or fax insurance company and request authorization. Make sure the proper documentation is recorded and proper follow up to ensure that the authorization has been received approved or denied.

Allergy Extract Mixing

  • All trained staff

Extract Refrigerators

  • Keep organized
  • Rotate vials when necessary
  • Send mail outs

Other Task

  • Stock exam rooms: table paper, gauze, pillow cases, gowns, drapes, tongue depressor, Q-Tip swab, ear speculum, New Patient folders
  • Stock triage area: Quintest, alcohol, band aids, needles, syringes, ear probes, stickers, Steroid Cream, Antihistamines
  • Stock Spiro room
  • Place sample medications in designated area. In addition, remove all expired sample medication and discard appropriately.
  • Keep work area and exams neat and clean.

 

Other Task as directed

  • Fill skin test trays
  • Prepared patch test per appointment schedule
  • Process Xolair shipments
  • Process medical supply shipments
  • Exam room emergency kit for expired drugs.
  • In addition to the duties above, any other tasks as instructed by providers and practice administrator or designated staff.
