Position Summary

The Sleep Technologist is responsible for performing sleep studies and providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders under the direction of a physician. This includes polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services, patient care, and education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments, if necessary. 
  • Apply electrodes and other monitoring devices to patients following established protocols. 
  • Perform routine polysomnographic and other sleep disorder tests. 
  • Monitor and document physiological data collected during sleep studies and make adjustments to procedures as needed. 
  • Analyze and integrate patient information in order to meet the needs of the patient and perform troubleshooting when necessary. 
  • Provide patient education and explain testing procedures to ensure patient comfort and cooperation. 
  • Work with physicians and healthcare providers to interpret data and deliver accurate reports. 
  • Review, analyze, and score polysomnograms according to the standards set by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). 
  • Maintain patient safety by responding to and reporting any significant changes in patient status. 
  • Clean, disinfect, and store equipment properly after testing, ensuring a sterile environment for patient care. 
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, reports, and charts. 
  • Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
